As a BA, what you do at each phase of SDLC

When you are on board at the client location…get familiarize with staff hierarchy (Directors, Managers, PM, SME’s, IT, QA, UAT, Productions Support etc..).

Understand the project with scope of the project from Project Charter. Understand the current process and what are we trying to achieve…Prepare the questionnaires (existing issues, problems & business justification) for the project.

Once you have some knowledge on the project… it is required to identify the high level requirements from Scope document or Project Charter, SME, Managers, and Project Owners.

While gathering the detail requirements, document the business need/justification, existing & future functionalities. While gathering requirements from SME’s, Managers if you are not clear/understand or if you are not catching up their speed to document, ask them politely & pleasingly to repeat the sentence/wording again with normal speed.

If any topic of the project/requirement has been started and could not able to complete at the end of the meeting due to the time or other constrains, try to complete the topic at the same day so that the SME’s could remember well and chances of forgetting the information/topic in the next/following meeting. Always document or record the conversation regarding the topics/requirements/decisions (chances of forgetting the topics/decisions after some days)

During the Development phase…Clarify or address the developersquestions regarding the requirements. If you are not confident or not sure about the information contact appropriate SME, gather relevant information and communicates to developers/programmers.

During the Testing phase…Conduct requirements review meeting with the Testing team (QA-Quality Assurance/QC-Quality Control/UAT-User Acceptance Testing). Ensure testing team understands all the requirements and use cases clearly. If have any issues document the issues on the issue log and communicates to Project Manager.
